Mattress Construction

A mattress consists of four basic elements:
1) Foundation or Boxspring The foundation or boxspring acts as a giant shock absorber, distributing much of the normal wear and tear of nightly use. Foundations also lend added support, durability and, in the case of adjustable beds, flexibility.

2) Mattress Core Core construction varies with each type of mattress. Whether the mattress consists of springs, foam, air, or water, this middle "core" provides support for the sleeper.

3) Comfort Layers Comfort layers integrated on top of and around the core provide deep comfort levels. A variety of foams and fibers are used to improve cushioning properties, provide air flow, and enhance the support of the mattress core.

4) Surface Upholstery Layers Upholstery layers on the surface provide direct surface comfort and styling options. A variety of fabrics and fibers are used to further improve cushioning properties, provide air flow, and increase the durability of the overall product.
